GHANA – Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, a joint venture between Olam International and Sanyo Foods, has officially resumed production and distribution of its popular Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix after receiving clearance from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on September 12, 2025.
The FDA’s review followed safety concerns raised in August, prompting a temporary halt in production and a precautionary recall of select batches.
In a statement issued to the Ghanaian Times, the company confirmed that the recall was a proactive and responsible measure taken under the guidance of the FDA to uphold consumer safety and maintain the highest product standards.
“This responsible measure reflected our deep commitment to our consumers and our readiness to act decisively to preserve the safety and quality of our products,” the company said.
Following a thorough evaluation, the FDA reaffirmed that Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix meets all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
In line with FDA recommendations, Nutrifoods strengthened its process controls, introducing extended incubation protocols and reinforcing its internal quality assurance systems.
The company emphasized that this collaborative review validated its commitment to maintaining world-class production standards.
Nutrifoods Ghana expressed gratitude to consumers for their patience, stating, “We are proud that for over a decade, Tasty Tom has been a trusted part of everyday cooking in Ghana. We apologize for any inconvenience and are pleased that Tasty Tom products are now available again for consumers to enjoy. Tasty Tom: trusted, reaffirmed, and ready to serve.”
Headquartered in Tema, Nutrifoods operates two major facilities, a culinary production plant and a biscuit manufacturing unit, that cater to both local and export markets.
Its diverse product portfolio includes Tasty Tom Tomato Mix, Jollof Mix, Pepper & Onion Mix, and a range of popular biscuits such as Perk, Nutrisnax, and Royal King Cracker.
As the first biscuit manufacturer in West Africa to achieve Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification through FSSC 22000, Nutrifoods continues to set industry benchmarks in food safety and quality.
Beyond manufacturing, the company actively engages communities through nutrition and food safety initiatives, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to innovation, transparency, and consumer trust across Ghana’s food industry and the broader West African market.
