Schweppes unveils rebrand, revives iconic Skittle bottle and launches new premium flavours

Schweppes introduces a global visual refresh, classic Skittle bottle return, and three new straight-drinking flavours.

SOUTH AFRICA – Schweppes, the world’s first sparkling drink and a brand with heritage dating back to 1783, has unveiled a bold new visual identity, reintroduced its iconic Skittle bottle, and launched three premium straight drinking flavours aimed at modern consumers.

Drawing on more than 240 years of craftsmanship, Schweppes said the refreshed look is designed to resonate with today’s beverage drinkers.

The new global visual identity features shimmering metallic cans in gold, teal, coral and blush pink, complemented by the brand’s signature saffron yellow ribbon and bold black wordmark. The company said the design is intended to be confident, contemporary and instantly recognisable.

Alongside the rebrand, Schweppes has brought back its distinctive curved Skittle bottle. First developed in the 18th century to help preserve carbonation, the bottle now returns in a refined 1L PET format.

Schweppes said the updated design blends heritage with modern convenience, offering a format suitable for both everyday use and table occasions.

The relaunch reflects changing consumer preferences. According to insights from the International Wine and Spirits Record (IWSR), younger generations are increasingly choosing beverages that deliver full flavour and visual appeal, including non-alcoholic options.

Rana Mandour, Senior Director of Brand Management, Premium, Coca-Cola Africa, said the brand evolution reflects shifting social habits.

“The Icon Reimagined recognises that social moments have evolved. People want great tasting, beautifully designed drinks that fit their lifestyle. Our new straight drinking range offers exactly that, sophistication, refreshment and the unmistakable quality of Schweppes,” Mandour said.

Franscoe Bouwer, Senior Director of Frontline Marketing at Coca-Cola South Africa, highlighted the brand’s local relevance.

“Schweppes has always been part of South Africa’s social fabric. Now, with our new look, Skittle bottle and flavours designed for pure enjoyment, we’re inviting consumers to experience the best of tradition and innovation in every sip,” Bouwer said.

To mark the new identity, Schweppes has expanded its portfolio with three new flavours: Pineapple Coconut, Pomegranate and Tangerine.

The updated cans, Skittle bottles and new flavours are now available in stores nationwide (SA).
