Vietnam’s seafood export revenue hits US$6.22B in 2025
Shipments to China and US drive growth
VIETNAM – Vietnam’s seafood export earnings in the first seven months of 2025 have reached US$6.22 billion, a 17.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
For July alone, export turnover amounted to US$971 million, which represents a 6.1% rise from the same month last year.
The United States and China remained the country’s largest buyers during the period, with China importing nearly US$1.33 billion worth of seafood, up 42.6%, while shipments to the US totaled more than US$1 billion, up 10.4%.
Shrimp continued to account for the largest share of export growth, generating US$2.49 billion in revenue between January and July, an increase of 23.6% year-on-year.
In comparison, exports of tra (pangasius) fish brought in US$1.22 billion over the same period, reflecting an 11.1% increase from 2024.
VASEP expects total seafood export earnings for the year to be between US$9 billion and US$9.2 billion.
Aquaculture continues expanding
Vietnam remains one of the world’s top five seafood producers and exporters, with output in 2024 reaching 9.5 million tons, according to VASEP data.
Aquaculture contributed 5.7 million tons, or 58% of the total, while fishing accounted for 3.8 million tons, making up the remaining 42%.
From 2018 to 2024, aquaculture production rose by 38%, with the Mekong Delta identified as the core production area for species such as pangasius and shrimp.
Other aquaculture species produced in significant volumes include marine fish, lobsters, and mollusks, which are also geared toward export markets.
A large portion of Vietnam’s seafood output is shipped to major destinations including the US, the European Union, and Japan, in addition to China.
VASEP attributes the export growth in 2025 partly to steady demand in these key markets and increased production capacity in aquaculture regions.
The organization’s forecast for the year suggests that Vietnam’s seafood industry is on track to maintain its position among the leading global suppliers in terms of both volume and export value.
