Customers can now access a wider product range and improved services.

AUSTRIA – SPAR Austria inaugurated its latest EUROSPAR supermarket in Güssing, following a year-long construction project next to the former SPAR location.
Covering over 1,200 square meters, the new store is almost twice the size of the previous outlet, offering a broader selection of products, with an emphasis on fresh items and locally sourced goods.
The supermarket’s layout prioritizes wide aisles, natural light, and clear navigation, providing shoppers with a more open and convenient environment.
A key feature is the fresh produce section, which combines fruits and vegetables, bakery items, and delicatessen offerings, while staff in the deli area provide guidance and personalized service.
Digital price labels have been introduced across the store to ensure accurate pricing and reduce administrative workload for employees.
Energy efficiency is integrated into the building through a rooftop photovoltaic system, LED lighting, and modern heating and cooling technologies, including heat recovery.
The supermarket offers 131 extra-wide parking spaces and four fast-charging stations for electric vehicles, while deliveries are handled in a noise-reduced zone designed to minimize disruption.
Green areas around the store are maintained with automated irrigation, and a specialized filter system in the parking lot manages surface water to allow controlled drainage.
Christoph Holzer, Managing Director of SPAR Styria and Southern Burgenland, explained that the supermarket offers a modern shopping environment and sustainable infrastructure to support long-term service to the local community.
SPAR Austria has a long-standing presence in the country, dating back to 1954, and currently operates under SPAR Austria AG, a 100% privately owned company formed in 1970 by merging founding families with regional wholesalers.
The company operates a mix of its own stores nationwide and independent retailers under sub-licenses, continuing to expand its multi-format retail approach throughout Austria.
Customers in Güssing now have access to a modern supermarket with a wider product range, upgraded facilities, and energy-efficient operations that align with current environmental standards.
