Seven in ten consumers reported mixing sauces, with ketchup and mayonnaise emerging as the most popular pairing (43%).

UK – The Aldi Supermarket chain has introduced “The Mighty Trio”, a limited-edition dispenser designed to release ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard simultaneously, providing a convenient and time-saving solution for consumers seeking all three condiments in a single, perfectly balanced squeeze.
The launch follows new research underscoring the depth of the UK’s enthusiasm for sauces, with seven in ten consumers reporting that they mix sauces, with ketchup and mayonnaise emerging as the most popular pairing (43%).
Some 40% of those surveyed believe sauce preferences can even reveal insights into a person’s character, suggesting condiments hold surprising cultural significance.
Almost one in three respondents (32%) indicated they would end a date over a condiment disagreement, while 84% said they might consider leaving a barbecue if ketchup was unavailable.
The study also reflects a growing appetite for customisation.
A further three in five (59%) admitted to creating their own signature blends at home, with nearly a quarter (24%) doing so on a regular basis.
Approximately 72% expressed interest in trying Aldi’s new triple-sauce dispenser, although 25% preferred to keep condiments separate, citing the importance of taste precision and presentation.
Additional findings revealed firm opinions on how sauces are used.
Fifteen per cent believe ketchup should never be added to pasta, while 45% acknowledged quietly judging others on their application techniques, whether drizzling or dipping.
Sharing condiments can also cause unease, with 72% of respondents saying they feel uncomfortable when someone else applies sauce to their food.
Almost a third (32%) have avoided asking for condiments in restaurants to escape scrutiny, and 42% have carried their own bottles when travelling or dining out, highlighting just how seriously people take flavour control.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, commented:
“Consumers have a clear passion for condiments, with many experimenting to create their own unique flavour combinations. The Mighty Trio addresses the challenge of serving multiple sauces simultaneously, offering a practical, fun solution for any setting where versatility and convenience are valued.”
The limited-edition product complements Aldi’s existing condiment portfolio, which includes Bramwells Tomato Ketchup (89p/550g), Bramwells Squeezy Real Mayonnaise (95p/500ml) and Bramwells American Style Mustard (99p/290g), ensuring hosts can cater to varied preferences during summer gatherings, picnics, and informal dining occasions.
