The achievement strengthens market access for smallholder farmers who supply potatoes to Buya Bamba, while creating new jobs along the value chain, from production and packaging to distribution and export.

ZAMBIA – Buya Bamba Limited has announced that its Zambian Potato Company Frozen Potato Chips have achieved the FSSC 22000 certification, a globally recognized standard for food safety.
The milestone places Zambia on the global map for quality food production and export readiness.
“This globally recognized food safety certification confirms that our frozen chips meet world class standards, making them eligible for international export,” the company said in a statement.
“It is more than a certification. It is a powerful statement that Zambian excellence can proudly compete on the global stage.”
The FSSC 22000 certification marks a major leap for Zambia’s agri-food sector. It signals a growing confidence in locally processed products that can meet global expectations on quality, safety, and consistency.
For farmers, suppliers, and local communities, the company says the achievement “represents opportunity.” It strengthens market access for smallholder farmers who supply potatoes to Buya Bamba, while creating new jobs along the value chain – from production and packaging to distribution and export.
Industry analysts view this as a positive sign for Zambia’s agricultural sector. With more companies adopting global food safety systems, the country is positioning itself as a reliable supplier of processed foods in the regional and international markets.
Sustaining growth through quality
Buya Bamba credits its success to consistent improvement and close collaboration with local growers. “At Buya Bamba Potatoes, progress is not a destination but a daily commitment,” the company said.
“From how we grow, process, and package our potatoes to how we deliver quality across Zambia and beyond, we continue to raise the bar in African agriculture, food safety, and sustainability.”
The company has built a strong base in Zambia’s Copperbelt region, where it sources fresh potatoes from local farmers and turns them into ready-to-cook frozen chips.
Its operations have not only improved farm productivity but also introduced modern cold-chain logistics that reduce waste and maintain freshness.
As Buya Bamba celebrates this milestone, the company plans to continue investing in technology, farmer training, and sustainable production. It sees the certification as a springboard to expand exports across Africa and Europe.
“At Buya Bamba, we will continue to push boundaries, improve every day, and prove that Zambia’s homegrown produce can stand among the best in the world,” the company said.
The certification adds to a growing list of developments in Zambia’s food industry, signaling stronger competitiveness and increased potential for agricultural exports.
Buya Bamba’s achievement stands as a reminder that with the proper standards, local enterprises can grow beyond borders and strengthen national confidence in Zambian-made products.
