17 additional plants in Brazil receive clearance

INDONESIA – Indonesia is granting authorization to 17 more Brazilian meatpacking plants to export beef, raising the total number of approved facilities to 38.
The new approvals cover operations in several states, with six in Mato Grosso, two in Rio Grande do Sul, two in Minas Gerais, two in Goiás, two in Mato Grosso do Sul, two in Rondônia and one in São Paulo.
This development follows confirmation by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) that Indonesia is also opening its market to beef with bone, offal, processed meat and prepared beef products.
Indonesia, home to about 283 million people, is the fourth most populous nation globally, making it an important destination for animal protein.
Beef consumption in the country has been rising steadily, supported by income growth and the expansion of its urban middle class.
Between January and August 2025, Brazil exported 15,400 tons of beef to Indonesia, generating US$71.6 million, compared with just 2,600 tons valued at US$11.5 million in the whole of 2024.
The increase represents growth of 253 percent in export volume and 258.9 percent in export value over the same period last year.
According to the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (ABIEC), the expansion of authorizations is the outcome of joint work between industry players and the Brazilian government.
ABIEC pointed to the involvement of MAPA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) as key to advancing market access.
The association’s president, Roberto Perosa, said the partnership between private companies and public institutions has been central to securing Indonesia’s approval of more plants and products.
With the additional certifications, Brazil is strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia, where demand for beef is projected to keep growing in the coming years.
Industry observers note that Indonesia’s decision is expected to further diversify Brazil’s beef export portfolio and support its role as a leading supplier to Asian markets.
