JBS USA plans to close facilities in Pennsylvania and Tennessee as part of operational changes.

USA – JBS USA has announced plans to cease operations at two of its facilities in the United States, a move that will affect workers at sites in Pennsylvania and Tennessee as the meat processor adjusts its production network.
The company said the closures involve its beef processing plant in Souderton, Pennsylvania, located near Philadelphia, and a value-added production facility in Memphis, Tennessee, with transition measures already being prepared for affected employees.
According to JBS USA, the decision forms part of a review of its operations aimed at aligning resources with its future business priorities and long-term production requirements.
In a statement, Chief Executive Officer Wesley Batista Filho said the company recognised the impact the closures would have on workers and local communities and thanked employees at both facilities for their contributions over the years.
As the shutdown process moves forward, JBS USA said employees at the affected facilities will have the opportunity to apply for vacant positions at other company operations across the country.
The company added that support services will be made available on site to assist workers during the transition period and help them navigate employment options within and outside the organisation.
JBS USA also stated that it will continue working with local officials, workforce development partners and other stakeholders as the facilities prepare to end operations.
While announcing the closures, the company pointed to a series of investments made across its U.S. operations over the past year as part of efforts to expand production capacity and update facilities.
Those projects include expansion work at sites in Texas, Georgia and Iowa, where JBS USA has been increasing its prepared foods and value-added production capabilities.
The company said the investments are intended to support future growth, improve operational efficiency and enhance its ability to meet customer demand across its product portfolio.
Although JBS USA did not provide a timeline for the closure of either facility or disclose the number of employees expected to be affected, the company said it remains focused on implementing transition plans while continuing investments in other parts of its U.S. business.
