Kenya’s Naivas opens 111th branch on Magadi Road

Kenya’s top retailer expands footprint with new outlet as new CEO takes charge

KENYA – Naivas Supermarket has opened its 111th branch at OUR Mall along Magadi Road, Nairobi, as the retailer continues to grow its presence across the country.

The new outlet features an extensive range of products, including fresh produce and groceries, all tailored to meet the needs of the surrounding community.

During the official opening, Naivas Operations Manager Stanley Kariuki said the new store symbolised more than physical expansion, noting that it reflected the retailer’s mission to provide affordable and accessible shopping experiences that resonate with Kenyan households.

He added that Magadi Road was an emerging residential and commercial area, making it a suitable location for Naivas to connect with more consumers seeking convenience and value.

The launch coincided with the retailer’s 35th anniversary, marking over three decades of service to Kenyan families through local sourcing and customer-focused retailing.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, the company is running its annual Kikwetu Campaign, which rewards loyal shoppers with daily, weekly, and monthly prizes, including household appliances, motorcycles, and vehicles.

According to Mr Kariuki, the campaign represents the company’s appreciation for customers who have supported the brand’s growth across Kenya.

To celebrate the opening, Naivas offered discounts and shopping vouchers to early shoppers who attended the launch ceremony.

Mini Bakeries CEO Hafeez Manji, speaking on behalf of local suppliers, congratulated Naivas on the new branch and expressed appreciation for its continued support of Kenyan producers.

Currently, more than 90% of Naivas’ products are sourced locally, supporting domestic manufacturing, job creation, and economic growth.

Leadership Change

Earlier in October, Naivas announced the appointment of Andreas von Paleske as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding David Kimani Mukuha, who had led the company through a major phase of expansion.

Von Paleske has been part of Naivas’ leadership team since 2017, serving as Chief Strategy Officer, where he contributed to the company’s structural and governance reforms.

He also played a central role in securing investment partnerships with Amethis Private Equity and Mauritius-based IBL Group, deals estimated at tens of millions of US dollars (US$), which provided the capital base for Naivas’ continued expansion.

Since 2022, von Paleske has also been a board member of Naivas International, the holding firm overseeing regional operations and future growth plans.

Before joining Naivas, he co-founded Africa Platform Capital LLP, a private equity company that specialised in consumer and healthcare investments across Sub-Saharan Africa.
