Local meat and seafood markets see stable pricing.

EGYPT – Prices of meat and seafood in Egypt held steady across most markets.
Local red meat was selling between US$5.99 (EGP 290) and US$9.30 (EGP 450) per kilogram, with variation depending on cut, type, and whether the product was fresh or frozen.
Poultry prices ranged from US$1.45 (EGP 70) to US$4.34 (EGP 210) per kilogram during the same period.
Seafood markets recorded minor price changes, with tilapia costing between US$1.50 (EGP 72.8) and US$2.19 (EGP 105.97) per kilogram.
Shrimp remained among the most expensive items, reaching US$10.30 (EGP 498.73) per kilogram for premium sizes.
The price stability comes months after Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened a meeting to review strategies aimed at ensuring a steady supply of red meat in domestic markets.
The meeting included Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa El-Din Farouk, Deputy Agriculture Minister Mostafa El-Sayyad, and representatives from the Central Bank, the Armed Forces’ National Service Projects Organisation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Madbouly stated that these measures are in line with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s directives to maintain sufficient stocks of essential goods, including meat, across the country.
He said that the continued use of temporary “one-day” markets has helped ease price pressures in several areas.
Supply and Infrastructure Expansion
During the meeting, the agriculture minister detailed plans to expand the number of authorised quarries and slaughterhouses in key regions.
He also said that fixed and mobile outlets operated by the ministry are being stocked with meat and other food products at reduced prices for consumers in different governorates.
Market data shows that the gross production value of Egypt’s meat market is projected at US$9.73 billion in 2025.
It is expected to grow at an annual rate of 2.69 percent between 2025 and 2029, reaching US$10.82 billion by the end of the period.
Import value for meat is forecast to be US$121.9 million in 2025, reflecting continued reliance on foreign supplies.
According to FAOSTAT data, poultry meat consumption per person in Egypt reached 21.3 kilograms in 2021, marking a 7.67 percent increase from the year before.
This figure represents the highest level of per capita poultry consumption recorded in the country’s history, compared with a low of 2.15 kilograms in 1969.
