The upcoming fair will bring together International Asparagus Days and International Berries Days into one combined program focused on both sectors.
FRANCE – Macfrut 2025, one of the leading trade fairs for the fruit and vegetable sector, has announced a new international event set to take place in Bordeaux, France, from 7 to 10 October 2025.
The upcoming fair will bring together International Asparagus Days and International Berries Days into one combined program focused on both sectors.
The announcement was made during the 42nd edition of Macfrut in Rimini, with event leaders including Macfrut President Renzo Piraccini, agronomist Luciano Trentini, asparagus expert Christian Befve, and Christine Pecastaingts from Interco Nouvelle-Aquitaine in attendance.
“Many asparagus growers are also berry producers, and the same applies to suppliers and business partners,” said Piraccini. “This event reflects the practical link between the two industries. It will make it easier for people across both fields to connect and share knowledge.”
Program details
The four-day program starts on Tuesday, 7 October, with technical visits in the Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne areas. Asparagus stops include Vignobles Bouillac and the Lebourg production site, while berry tours feature nurseries like St Armand and Fruits Rouges du Confluent.
From 8 to 9 October, Planasa in Bordeaux will host the main exhibition and field demonstrations. These will include research on strawberries, new asparagus varieties, a guided blueberry tour, and asparagus replanting activities. One key session titled “Which innovations to improve grower performance (genetic and technical traits)?” will provide updates on current breeding work and tools that support grower success.
The event ends on Friday, 10 October, with visits in Dordogne, including the Lanxade Interprofessional Technical Centre for Fruit and Vegetables, the Invenio experimental station, and the Teychennè family farm.
Macfrut continues to expand its reach
The news comes as Macfrut 2025 records high international interest. The trade fair hosts 1,400 exhibitors this year, with over 40 percent from outside Italy. More than 1,500 buyers from across the world are attending the event.
“Those who have attended Macfrut are well aware of how the event has taken off since the Covid period, also thanks to our collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE),” said Piraccini. He also noted that Macfrut, together with Fieravicola, has grown into a strong agri-food meeting point.
Piraccini highlighted the importance of the fruit and vegetable sector to Italy’s economy. “Macfrut is the showcase of Italy’s fruit and vegetable supply chain, a cornerstone sector for our country, worth €19 billion (US$21.60 billion), rising to over €60 billion (US$68.23 billion) when considering the entire supply chain.”
The upcoming Bordeaux event is expected to draw wide participation and continue building links between growers, researchers, and businesses in the asparagus and berry markets.
