THE NETHERLANDS – Australian biotech company Nourish Ingredients is expanding its global footprint with the launch of a commercial hub at BioPartner 5 in Leiden, the Netherlands.
This marks a significant step in bringing its specialty fats and precision fermentation technology into the European food ecosystem.
The Netherlands facility will serve as the company’s European base for innovation, product development, and customer collaboration.
It will feature a demonstration kitchen, allowing food manufacturers to experience how Nourish’s fats can enhance their products, alongside specialised laboratories for sensory testing and application development. The hub is expected to be fully operational by 2026.
Founded in 2020, Nourish has emerged as a leader in animal-free fats designed to replicate the taste and functionality of animal products.
The company has accelerated its international expansion over the past year. In November 2024, Nourish signed a commercial agreement with Chinese biomanufacturer Cabio Biotech to produce and distribute its signature fat, Tastilux, across the Asia-Pacific region, with the first production run completed in April.
In August, its proprietary ingredient received FEMA GRAS status in the United States, clearing the way for immediate sales to food manufacturers and brands.
Nourish co-founder and CTO Anna El Tahchy has relocated to Leiden to lead the European operations.
She highlighted Europe as a natural growth destination due to its concentration of global food manufacturers and supportive innovation ecosystem.
“Europe offers an ideal environment for the next stage of our growth, with a highly supportive ecosystem and some of the world’s leading food companies based here,” she said.
The new base will also leverage the sustainable design of BioPartner 5, the Netherlands’ first energy-neutral laboratory, aligning with Nourish’s commitment to environmentally conscious food solutions.
Nourish’s product pipeline is built around two key fat platforms.
Tastilux delivers authentic animal taste and aroma at low inclusion rates for use in meat alternatives, snacks, and seasonings.
Creamilux replicates the texture, taste, and emulsification properties of dairy fat, with potential applications across dairy and non-dairy categories.
Nourish recently partnered with Fonterra to explore Creamilux’s role in traditional dairy and plant-based products.
CEO and co-founder James Petrie described the Leiden hub as a launch pad for global growth.
“Establishing our commercial hub in the Netherlands allows us to work directly with European customers and partners, tapping into local networks that will accelerate our growth,” he said.
Looking ahead, Nourish plans to expand partnerships with major food manufacturers worldwide, ramp up Creamilux production with a commercial partner, and progress regulatory pathways in Europe, China, and additional markets.
The company expects its first European sales within the next year as trials and commercial agreements advance.
