Expansion plans include new branches, food processing and research partnerships

OMAN – A livestock venture in Oman’s Wilayat of Dhank is increasing its focus on breeding and fattening local goat breeds as part of wider efforts to raise domestic meat production and reduce dependence on imports.
Dr Yahya bin Khalifa Al Hinai, who owns the project, said the farm was established to meet growing demand for locally produced meat and to contribute to food self-sufficiency targets linked to the country’s livestock industry.
He said the initiative also reflects increasing collaboration between government institutions and private investors in sectors connected to food production and economic development.
According to Al Hinai, the project centres on purebred Omani goats, which are considered suitable for commercial breeding because of their adaptability to local weather conditions and the quality of their meat.
He said the farm is increasing production through structured breeding and fattening programmes designed to supply more livestock to the local market while also assessing opportunities for exports in future.
Al Hinai added that the project is expected to create jobs for Omani youth while supporting economic activity linked to agriculture and livestock production.
The farm uses livestock management systems that include veterinary supervision, scheduled vaccinations and feeding programmes aimed at improving animal growth and meat output.
He said digital monitoring equipment is also being used to track the health condition of the animals and improve operational efficiency across the farm.
In addition, the project relies on feed such as alfalfa and green fodder sourced from specialised suppliers to improve nutrition and meat quality.
Al Hinai said the project has received technical guidance and advisory support from the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development through training programmes, financing access and participation in exhibitions linked to entrepreneurship and food security.
He added that future plans involve opening branches in other governorates to increase production capacity and widen the project’s market reach within Oman.
The next stage of development is expected to involve cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources on livestock production and breeding activities.
Further expansion plans include increasing fodder cultivation agreements with local farmers, introducing modern breeding technologies and entering food processing and e-marketing activities as part of efforts to improve long-term commercial sustainability.
