Soufflet Malt launches MalTiply 2030 strategy to transform global malt applications

Soufflet Malt unveils its MalTiply 2030 roadmap to expand malt beyond brewing and distilling into new food and beverage categories.

UK – Soufflet Malt, the world’s largest maltster, has launched a new growth roadmap dubbed MalTiply 2030 to redefine the role of malt in the drinks industry and beyond.

The strategy aims to strengthen the company’s leadership in brewing and distilling while extending malt applications to breakfast cereals, hot and soft drinks, snacks and new flavour innovations in spirits.

“Our new MalTiply 2030 strategy is ambitious, focused and grounded in the needs of our customers,” said Jorge Solis, chief executive officer. “It’s designed to enhance our leadership in our core brewing and distilling markets while serving a broader set of customers across the food and beverage industry and other sectors.”

Soufflet Malt operates 40 malting plants across 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and America, employing more than 2,300 staff and producing 3.7 million tonnes of malt annually.

Solis said the MalTiply 2030 roadmap will expand the company’s global footprint, deepen market penetration, strengthen sustainability leadership and drive operational excellence.

As part of the new strategy, Soufflet Malt will invest over €200 million in sustainability initiatives by 2030. These measures include reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and cutting water intensity by 30%, reinforcing the company’s environmental commitments.

Alongside its sustainability goals, Soufflet Malt has introduced two malt-based innovations. The first is a malt-based coffee drink created from its portfolio of over 250 malt types. This caffeine-free, nutrient-enriched beverage offers manufacturers a sustainable alternative to traditional coffee products amid volatile global coffee prices.

Laurent Debande, chief growth and innovation officer at Soufflet Malt, said the new drink delivers “taste, nutrition and sustainability in one cup.”

The second innovation is a range of malt-based concentrates for soft drinks. Made with only malt and water, the concentrates provide a versatile base for sodas, iced teas and energy drinks. This minimalist formulation aligns with current consumer preferences for clean-label products free from added sugars, artificial additives and preservatives.

“Our soft drink innovation proves that malt can lead the transformation,” Debande said. “Delivering natural taste, real nutritional benefits and seamless integration into diverse beverage formats, this is just the beginning of our journey to create a future with malt at every moment of the day.”
