Tanmiah Food Company signs MoUs with PHYLA, RECYCLEE to advance food security

The move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s goals for poultry self-sufficiency and landfill reduction.

SAUDI ARABIA – Tanmiah Food Company (TADAWUL: 2281), a major integrated poultry and food producer in Saudi Arabia, announced the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding with SEQUENCIVE portfolio companies PHYLA and RECYCLEE.

The agreements were formalized at IFAT Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom’s specialized exhibition for environmental technologies and waste management, marking a step in Tanmiah’s waste-to-value strategy.

Under the deal with PHYLA, Tanmiah will conduct research on alternative proteins using Black Soldier Fly larvae to convert organic waste into sustainable animal feed.

The initiative aims to reduce dependence on global grain imports while supporting national food security, aligning with the Saudi Green Initiative and the target of 90% poultry self-sufficiency by 2030.

Simultaneously, Tanmiah’s collaboration with RECYCLEE will implement a digital platform to monitor, manage, and potentially monetize industrial byproducts.

The digitized waste management system is intended to increase transparency, ensure regulatory compliance, and support Saudi Arabia’s plan to divert 90% of waste from landfills by 2040.

Zulfiqar Hamadani, CEO of Tanmiah, said the partnerships reflect the company’s focus on integrating technology and biological research to enhance efficiency and food system resilience.

Mohammed AlMadhi, CEO of SEQUENCIVE, described the MoUs as a joint effort to strengthen alternative protein supply chains and improve waste diversion, contributing to broader national objectives.

Earlier this year, Tanmiah’s subsidiary, Agricultural Development Company, signed a contract with Chengdu Design and Research Institute to build 100 poultry broiler farms across Saudi Arabia.

The agreement outlines ADC’s role in infrastructure preparation, farm construction, and installation of necessary equipment, with work expected to start in January and continue through December 2026.

The new farms, valued at US$44 million, will be located on land already owned by ADC and will incorporate automated systems and Industry 4.0 technologies to enable data-driven poultry operations.

Funding for the project will be provided through long-term deferred payment arrangements, though the company did not disclose repayment details or financial counterparties.

Tanmiah expects the farms to begin contributing to commercial output in January 2027, with financial results appearing in group statements thereafter.

The broiler farm development is part of a broader plan to expand Tanmiah’s production capacity and align with anticipated growth in primary poultry processing.

This series of initiatives positions Tanmiah to explore sustainable protein alternatives, improve operational efficiency, and advance Saudi Arabia’s environmental and food security objectives.
