Tanmiah signs strategic partnerships to advance Saudi sustainability goals

Tanmiah Food Company enters three agreements to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency, including the launch of the region’s first geothermal-cooled poultry facility.

SAUDI ARABIA – Tanmiah Food Company, a major poultry and food producer in the Kingdom, signed three Memorandums of Understanding with Schneider Electric, Strataphy, and Kayes Arabia to accelerate its efforts to cut carbon emissions and increase operational energy efficiency.

The agreements were formalized during the First Annual Saudi Agri-Food Tech Alliance Forum at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture headquarters in Riyadh, under the supervision of Vice Minister Mansour Almushaiti.

The forum convened policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and innovators to discuss sustainable practices and technological developments in the Kingdom’s agricultural and food sectors.

Deputy Minister for Research & Innovation, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Malik, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks highlighting the importance of sustainable innovation in Saudi food production.

Tanmiah’s Chief Strategy Officer, Abbas Khan, showcased the company’s adoption of Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence technologies in farming and logistics, as well as trials using locally sourced alternative feed to reduce reliance on imports.

The partnership with Schneider Electric will involve creating a comprehensive carbon inventory and setting emission-reduction targets under the Science Based Targets initiative, including guidance on forest, land, and agricultural emissions, while engaging suppliers to implement sustainable practices.

Through collaboration with Strataphy, Tanmiah has introduced geothermal cooling at its Shaqrah poultry facility, marking the first poultry operation in the region to use this technology under a scalable Cooling as a Service model to reduce energy-related emissions.

The agreement with Kayes Arabia focuses on replacing diesel-powered machinery across farms and processing plants with Liquefied Petroleum Gas systems to reduce emissions, enhance efficiency, and lower operational costs.

Tanmiah’s CEO, Zulfiqar Hamadani, described the initiatives as part of the company’s broader sustainability program aimed at achieving measurable environmental outcomes while supporting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives.

Founded in 1962 and publicly listed on the Saudi stock market, Tanmiah operates 149 farms, seven hatcheries, four feed mills, and four primary processing plants, in addition to four joint venture processing facilities across the region.

The company distributes poultry, processed proteins, animal feed, and related products across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Kuwait through wholesalers, retailers, food service outlets, and online channels.

Tanmiah has also implemented sustainability practices including converting waste into fertilizer, reusing wastewater from its operations, and planting one million trees as part of its environmental initiatives.
