Twinings Ovaltine to invest US$32.2M in Lagos manufacturing plant

Twinings Ovaltine plans a new Lagos facility, creating jobs and strengthening exports as UK-Nigeria trade ties deepen across the consumer goods sector.

NIGERIA – British beverage maker Twinings Ovaltine has announced plans to establish a £24 million (US$32.2 million) manufacturing facility in Lagos, Nigeria, marking a significant step in its expansion across West Africa.

The project is expected to create more than 100 direct jobs while supporting the company’s export ambitions in the region, according to a statement from the UK’s Department for Business and Trade.

“Twinings Ovaltine is launching a £24 million manufacturing facility in Lagos, its first in Africa, creating over 100 direct jobs and boosting the company’s exports across West Africa,” the statement said.

The investment forms part of broader trade engagements between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, as both countries seek to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral trade ties.

Peter Kyle, the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, said the initiative reflects growing commercial links between the two markets.

“With Nigerian firms creating jobs across the UK and British businesses expanding into one of the world’s fastest-growing markets, our partnership is strengthening both economies and delivering real benefits for people in both countries,” he said.

Twinings acquired Ovaltine, originally known as Ovomaltine, in 2002 and oversees its global branding and production. The Lagos facility will be operated by Twinings Ovaltine Nigeria Limited.

Ovaltine has historically maintained a strong presence in key African markets, including Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon. The new facility is expected to support local production and improve supply chain efficiency across the region.

The Lagos plant represents the company’s first manufacturing investment in Africa and underscores Nigeria’s importance as a growing market for consumer goods manufacturers.
