AUSTRIA – Waterdrop, an innovative hydration and beverage-tech brand, has launched its newest dissolvable cubes called Microlytes, which contain five electrolytes and nine vitamins to support endurance and recovery.
Founded in 2016 to boost water consumption while simultaneously reducing the amount of plastic used to create the bottles containing the liquid, Waterdrop said it is revolutionizing the beverage industry with innovation in the sports beverage industry.
The brand said the key difference between Microlytes and traditional sports drinks is its product doesn’t have sugar or caffeine, and it has a lower environmental footprint.
The company noted Microlytes provide consumers with another tasty beverage without 98% of plastic and 98% less CO2 used for transportation.
By switching from plastic bottles to Waterdrop’s cubes and reusable bottles, the company claims consumers can reduce their carbon dioxide emissions and plastic use by 98%.
The saving of 98% in plastic compared to traditional bottled drinks is obtained thanks to the individual recyclable packaging of each cube.
According to Waterdrop, the plastic contained in a single cap of a traditional bottle is equivalent to 10 microdrinks.
The Microlytes are intended to carve out its niche with people who value the sustainability aspect of the product as well as the presence of zinc, electrolytes, vitamins, and the absence of caffeine or sugar.
Microlytes users must first take the cube — which is available in melon, grapefruit, and blueberry flavors — and dissolve it in a bottle.
The company’s flagship brand was “microdrink”, a compact sugar-free cube that dissolves in water and enriches it with fruits, plants, and natural vitamins.
The microdrinks can be immersed in cold water, microtea, hot water, or microenergy and are sugar-free, preservative-free, gluten-free and lactose-free, and vegan.
While the most important market for Waterdrop’s portfolio to date remains Germany, just over a year of existence, the company said it is seeing strong growth in the United States, and in Europe, it is also very active in France, the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
After only 5 years of existence, the company highlighted to reach more than 2 million online customers and is referenced in more than 10,000 points of sale.
Data provided by the Austrian company shows that in the United States alone, 43% percent of adults drink less than four cups of water a day. That includes 36% who drink one to three cups and 7% who drink no water.
Determined to encourage water consumption while reducing the use of plastic, Waterdrop has also created a new product category called LUCY to provide everybody — at home, at the office, or on the go — with a safe and sustainable filtration system.
Using LUCY UV-C technology, it’s now possible to filter water on the go and drink clean water directly at the point of consumption thanks to a powerful UV-C sensor.
LUCY, which can be used on every Waterdrop bottle, tracks drinking progress on the device automatically, and it regularly synchronizes all the data with the Waterdrop Hydration App.
