Serengeti Breweries launches WhiteCap Crisp in Tanzania

New low-alcohol lager targets wellness-focused consumers as EABL posts profit growth across East African markets.

TANZANIA – Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), has launched WhiteCap Crisp, a premium low-alcohol lager, into the Tanzanian market.

This new offering marks an expansion of SBL’s beer portfolio and aims to cater to modern, health-conscious consumers.

WhiteCap Crisp is positioned as a refined, light lager crafted for drinkers who seek mindful enjoyment without overindulgence.

Brewed to deliver a smooth, balanced taste at its ideal serving temperature of 6°C, the beer is designed for individuals who value clarity and moderation in social settings.

“Beer is not just a drink, it’s a culture in Tanzania that is constantly evolving,” said Henry Esiaba, Marketing & Innovation Director at SBL. “WhiteCap Crisp is more than a beer; it’s a reflection of modern Tanzanian social life. It’s designed for those who value quality over quantity, clarity over chaos, and presence over pressure.”

Targeted at socially active consumers aged 25 to 40, the beer is intended for individuals who align with wellness trends and selectively indulgent lifestyles.

The product is already present in Kenya and Uganda, where EABL also operates.

For the half-year ending December 2024, EABL reported a 19% rise in net income to KSh 8.1 billion (US$62.7 million) —its first profit growth in three years.

Net revenue for the group increased by 2% to Kes 67.9 billion (US$525M), compared to Kes 66.5 billion (US$514.7M) in the previous year.

Among its regional markets, Tanzania led with the highest growth at 16%, followed by Kenya at 9%, and Uganda at 3%.

EABL Managing Director Jane Karuku attributed the improvement to a better business environment, although she noted ongoing pressure on consumer purchasing power.

WhiteCap Crisp is now available at retail outlets across Tanzania.
