Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank to fund egg-laying poultry factory in Kigoma
Facility is producing 90,000 trays of eggs monthly
TANZANIA – The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) is financing the establishment of a large-scale egg-laying poultry factory in Kigoma Region.
The facility, operating under the name Mayai Ltd, is owned by investor Rupinder Sandhu and is located in Kimbwela village, Simbo ward.
According to TADB Business Development Officer Patrick Kapungu, the poultry plant is among the biggest in the Western Zone, which includes Kigoma, Tabora, and Katavi regions.
He said the project is providing both permanent and temporary jobs to residents of Kigoma, with preference given to people living close to the site as well as other Tanzanians.
So far, more than 40 local workers have been hired, with the company also contributing to community development.
Among the initiatives are the drilling of water wells, extension of electricity, improvement of roads, and support for the construction of schools and health facilities in nearby villages.
Project financing
The company’s Managing Director, Rupinder Sandhu, explained that 80 percent of the project’s budget was covered through loans and financial backing from TADB.
He noted that this support has been critical for getting the poultry venture off the ground and bringing it to its current scale.
TADB’s involvement reflects the government’s wider policy of channeling financing into agribusiness and rural industrialization.
Output and economic impact
The Kigoma facility is currently producing around 3,000 trays of eggs each day, which amounts to about 90,000 trays per month.
This production capacity is expected to increase the supply of eggs in the region while also creating additional income opportunities through trade and distribution.
The investment is also seen as a way to reduce the dependence on egg imports from other parts of the country, thereby strengthening the local supply chain.
Residents in surrounding areas have reported improved access to social services linked to the factory’s development programs, indicating the wider impact of the project beyond job creation.
The poultry plant is part of a series of agribusiness projects that TADB has been financing in different regions, including initiatives in dairy and other livestock sectors.
