Fresh Del Monte completes US$285M acquisition, reuniting iconic brand after 40 years

The transaction represents the culmination of a decades-long separation

GLOBAL – Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. has officially completed its US$285 million acquisition of select assets from Del Monte Foods Corporation II, reuniting the Del Monte brand under single ownership for the first time in nearly four decades.

The transaction, approved through a court-supervised bankruptcy sale, marks a strategic milestone in the company’s 140-year history.

The acquisition includes manufacturing plants and popular product lines such as Contadina tomato products and S&W premium beans, vegetables, and fruits.

Commenting on the transaction, Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fresh Del Monte, emphasized, “This acquisition reunites the Del Monte brand, bringing together our fresh and packaged goods businesses under one company for the first time in almost 40 years,” he stated.

With this strategic combination, we now have the opportunity to offer our customers a more extensive portfolio of high-quality products while driving efficiencies across our operations,” he added.

Fresh Del Monte plans to maintain business continuity through a dedicated unit while integrating the acquired assets into its broader operations. The company’s core values-centered on innovation, sustainability, and quality will guide the transition.

Abu-Ghazaleh further highlighted the long-term vision behind the acquisition. “This is a transformative moment for our company and one that positions us for sustained growth in the years ahead,” he added. “By combining our fresh produce leadership with these iconic shelf-stable brands, we are building a stronger, more resilient organization.”

In addition, with expanded manufacturing capabilities and a diversified product mix, Fresh Del Monte aims to accelerate new product development while reaching more consumers through its established logistics network.

Further, the acquisition consolidates a major player in the global produce landscape. Hotels, restaurants, and catering operations that rely on Del Monte products can expect more coordinated service and potentially expanded product offerings as the company leverages its unified platform.

More importantly, the integration also positions Fresh Del Monte to respond more effectively to evolving consumer preferences for both fresh and shelf-stable options.

The transaction represents the culmination of a decades-long separation. Fresh Del Monte, which has operated as a standalone fresh produce company since its spin-off in 1989, now reclaims the packaged goods heritage that built the Del Monte name.

With manufacturing facilities, established brand equity, and a global logistics network now unified, the company is positioned for long-term growth anchored in its 140-year legacy.
