These activities emphasize the consistent regional demand for refined petroleum products and reliable maritime logistics.

KENYA – The Port of Mombasa has received the petroleum tanker MT Nord Harmony at the Shimanzi Oil Terminal to discharge 20,900 tonnes of V-Power petroleum products for the local market and transit regions, highlighting the port’s growing role as East Africa’s premier energy gateway amid a surge in regional fuel demand.
Tugboats safely guided the vessel through the busy Kilindini Channel before berthing at SOT to begin unloading its cargo.
According to the inward cargo manifest, MT Nord Harmony is scheduled to discharge 7,629 metric tonnes for the local market and 13,272 metric tonnes for transit, for a total of 20,901 metric tonnes. The vessel completed its discharge operations on August 15.
The seamless docking and discharge process serves as a testament to the facility’s operational efficiency and expanding infrastructure. The arrival highlights the Port of Mombasa’s growing capacity and operational efficiency in handling high-value petroleum vessels.
Regional Energy Hub and Trade Significance
By handling such high-value shipments, the port solidifies its role as a critical energy hub for East Africa. MT Nord Harmony is also one of four oil tankers expected at the port over the next two weeks, highlighting continued demand for petroleum cargo handling and the consistent regional demand for refined petroleum products.
The Shimanzi Oil Terminal plays a crucial role in facilitating the discharge and distribution of petroleum products that fuel Kenya’s economy and support landlocked neighbouring countries, including Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The terminal’s ability to handle large volumes of refined petroleum products efficiently helps ensure stable fuel supplies across the region.
Operational Excellence and Future Expectations
The successful discharge operation demonstrates the port’s capacity to manage large-scale petroleum operations with precision and safety. The tugboat guidance through the Kilindini Channel, one of East Africa’s busiest maritime corridors, highlights the coordinated efforts required to ensure safe vessel movements.
Moreover, these activities emphasize the consistent regional demand for refined petroleum products and reliable maritime logistics. The Port of Mombasa’s ability to handle multiple petroleum tankers in quick succession demonstrates its operational readiness and commitment to serving the region’s energy needs.
Finally, these activities emphasize the consistent regional demand for both refined petroleum products and reliable maritime logistics.
