SBC Tanzania appoints Himanshu Shekhar as new CEO
Shekhar takes over as CEO as SBC Tanzania advances plans for new manufacturing capacity in Dodoma and expanded production at its Arusha facility.
TANZANIA – SBC Tanzania has appointed Himanshu Shekhar as its new Chief Executive Officer, promoting him from his previous role as Chief Operating Officer as the beverage manufacturer expands its production capacity.
Shekhar was promoted to COO after demonstrating operational leadership, business strategy execution and commitment to the company, according to SBC Tanzania.
During his tenure as COO, Shekhar was directly involved in production and operational activities at SBC Tanzania’s facilities in Mwanza, Arusha and Kilimanjaro. His appointment comes as the company marks 25 years since its founding and advances plans to expand its manufacturing footprint.
During its 25th anniversary celebrations, SBC Tanzania’s leadership announced plans to expand the Arusha factory and increase production. The company also plans to build a new factory in Dodoma Region and increase PET bottle production capacity to meet market demand and improve product availability.
SBC Tanzania said Shekhar’s promotion reflected “his leadership in operational activities, his ability to implement plans, and his commitment to the company.”
SBC Tanzania operates in a competitive beverage market, facing international and local manufacturers and distributors. Its competitors include Coca-Cola Kwanza, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, as well as A-One Products and Bottlers of the MeTL Group.
A-One Products and Bottlers manufactures and distributes beverages including Mo Xtra, Mo Cola and Mo Chungwa, alongside water brands such as Masafi and Maisha.
Founded in 2001, SBC Tanzania manufactures and distributes PepsiCo brands including Pepsi, 7UP, Mirinda and Mountain Dew, alongside local offerings. The company operates plants in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha and Mbeya and employs more than 1,000 people.
India’s Varun Beverages, a major PepsiCo bottler, acquired SBC Tanzania in late 2024.
Shekhar takes charge as SBC Tanzania works to expand production, strengthen manufacturing capacity, improve product availability and support its growth across Tanzania’s beverage market.
