The company completes international food safety certifications and begins in-house chick production, expanding its poultry operations in Rwanda.

RWANDA – Avipro Rwanda has completed the FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) audit and is awaiting final certification, marking a step toward aligning its operations with global food safety standards.
The audit covers the company’s entire value chain, including farming, processing, and distribution, and passing it would demonstrate adherence to international safety regulations.
Consumers, distributors, and business clients are expected to gain assurance that Avipro Rwanda’s products meet consistent quality and safety requirements.
Meeting these standards could help the company build long-term trust with both local and international markets, where food safety compliance is critical.
The certification also positions Avipro Rwanda to meet demands from international buyers and larger companies that require verified food safety measures before collaboration.
This could create opportunities for new partnerships and potential export markets beyond Rwanda, expanding the company’s commercial reach.
Preparing for the audit presented challenges, particularly because Avipro Rwanda is relatively young, and this was its first international assessment of this scale.
Staff had to develop compliant documentation, introduce effective operational systems, and establish a company-wide culture focused on food safety responsibilities.
Oliver Mohabeer, the Group Quality Manager at Avipro, played a key role in guiding teams to meet the audit’s requirements.
In addition to FSSC 22000, Avipro Rwanda successfully passed a Halal certification audit, which could facilitate access to the HORECA sector, distributors, and institutional clients.
Halal certification may also support the company’s regional expansion by meeting cultural and regulatory expectations in neighbouring countries.
The certification required Avipro Rwanda to implement stricter sourcing, slaughtering, handling, and record-keeping procedures to align with international Halal standards.
In January 2026, Avipro Rwanda hatched its first chicks, producing over 10,000 with an 87% hatch rate, marking the start of its vertical integration strategy.
Controlling the breeding process allows the company to manage quality, ensure consistent supply, and plan for long-term sustainability in Rwanda’s poultry industry.
The hatchery milestone demonstrates ongoing growth in Avipro Rwanda’s operations and its commitment to expanding the domestic poultry supply chain.
