CCBA restores the original taste of Sobo favourites in Malawi while Coca-Cola Uganda expands its packaging portfolio with a new affordable 1L PET bottle.

MALAWI – Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) in Malawi has officially relaunched two of the country’s most iconic beverage flavours, Sobo Cocopina and Sobo Cherryplum, bringing back the original taste profile that consumers have long associated with the brands.
The relaunch follows months of consumer engagement, product refinement, and reformulation efforts aimed at restoring the beverages’ traditional flavour and colour. CCBA said the move reflects its continued focus on responding to consumer preferences and strengthening its portfolio in the Malawian market.
Chawanangwa Moyo, Acting Revenue Growth Management and Trade Marketing Director at CCBA in Malawi, said the company responded directly to customer feedback regarding the products’ taste.
“In a world of constant innovation and change, we once adjusted the recipes in response to market preferences at the time. However, overwhelming feedback from our loyal consumers made it clear: they wanted the original flavour and taste back. As a consumer- and customer-driven company, we listened and acted,” said Moyo.
He added that the company remains committed to developing beverages that resonate with consumers while supporting long-term sustainability goals.
“Our aim is to craft the brands and choice of drinks that people love and enjoy, to refresh them in ways that create a more sustainable business and better shared future for our people, communities, and our planet,” Moyo said.
“Everything starts with taking the time to understand people. Whether it’s the end consumer or a customer, it begins with understanding their world and what could make it better,” he added.
CCBA confirmed that the original-taste Sobo Cocopina and Sobo Cherryplum beverages are now available in retail outlets across Malawi.
CCBU Introduces New 1L PET Bottle
Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU), also part of the Coca-Cola Beverages Africa group, has launched a new Coca-Cola 1 Litre PET bottle as part of efforts to expand its packaging options for consumers.
The new 1L PET bottle, priced at UGX 2,500 (US$0.66), is designed as a shareable and affordable pack for families and groups.
The company said the resealable packaging provides convenience while offering consumers a practical alternative to purchasing multiple smaller bottles.
“Innovation for us is about offering a range of drink choices for all lifestyles and occasions. The Coca-Cola 1L PET is an innovation built around a clear consumer need, where people want enough to share at a price that feels right,” said Emmy Hashakimana, Managing Director at CCBU.
Mary Nassali, Commercial Excellence Director at CCBU, said the new bottle was developed to balance affordability and convenience for everyday consumption occasions.
