Favorable weather conditions and surging prices support record coffee production and strengthen Colombia’s export and retail expansion drive.

COLOMBIA – Colombia’s coffee production rose sharply in July 2025, reaching 1.37 million 60-kilogram bags — the highest output for the month in a decade.
This marked a 19% increase over July 2024, according to the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC).
The surge was attributed to persistent rains earlier in the year, which delayed the main harvest into the second half of 2025. “This allowed us to reach July production peaks not seen since 2015,” stated Ricardo Grau, head of the FNC’s technical management.
Over the past 12 months, from August 2024 through July 2025, the country produced 14.6 million bags, reflecting an 18% year-on-year increase.
Year-to-date production stood at 7.59 million bags, a 9% rise, while the October 2024 to July 2025 coffee year recorded 12.48 million bags, representing a 17% increase.
Colombia also saw growth in coffee exports. In July, international shipments reached 1.15 million bags, up 12% from a year earlier. Exports managed by the National Coffee Fund rose 27% to 233,000 bags.
Total exports over the past 12 months hit 13.1 million bags, a 14% increase, while Federation-handled exports rose 21%.
Preliminary import data for July showed 104,000 bags, with inventories growing to 988,000 bags. Domestic consumption remains steady, with an annual rolling estimate of 2.24 million bags.
Building on these favorable trends, Procafecol President Camila Escobar announced during the Ibero-American Business Alliance Congress in Seville that Juan Valdez plans to accelerate its international expansion.
The flagship brand currently operates 630 cafés globally — 370 in Colombia and 260 across 20 countries.
Escobar said that Arabica and Robusta prices have doubled over the past two years, benefiting Colombia’s 548,000 coffee-growing families.
She also revealed a new partnership with Spain’s Grupo Trinity to open 140 new Juan Valdez cafés in Spain over the next seven years, mostly financed by local investors under a franchise model.
