Rising demand for these exports reflects growing global confidence in the safety and reliability of Egyptian agricultural products.

EGYPT – Egypt’s fresh onion exports have exceeded 85,000 tons since the start of the year, forming part of a broader surge in agricultural shipments that has seen total volumes surpass 5 million tons during the same period.
According to the latest report from the Agricultural Quarantine Authority, growth has been supported by the opening of new export markets and the implementation of quarantine requirements to ensure product quality and safety.
Egyptian onions and garlic have recently gained access to markets including Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Uruguay, which are among the newer export markets targeted by the sector. This expansion into new global markets reflects Egypt’s strategic focus on market diversification to strengthen its position as a major international supplier.
Industry officials said the figures reflect growing international demand for Egyptian produce and greater acceptance of the country’s monitoring and traceability systems.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, in collaboration with export councils and growers, continues to provide technical and advisory support to ensure crops meet pesticide residue requirements. This technical guidance to local growers has successfully enhanced the global competitiveness of Egyptian crops.
Furthermore, authorities are focusing on expanding exports to the 21 new markets opened this year as part of efforts to further develop agricultural trade.
The government has prioritized strict quality control and traceability to ensure that all produce meets international safety standards and pesticide regulations. These measures include rigorous monitoring systems that track produce from farm to export, ensuring compliance with the requirements of importing countries.
On the other hand, fresh onions remain one of Egypt’s key export crops, supported by demand in international markets and ongoing market-access initiatives. Rising demand for these exports reflects growing global confidence in the safety and reliability of Egyptian agricultural products.
Therefore, by combining new market access, technical support for farmers, and robust quarantine systems, Egypt continues to build its reputation as a reliable supplier of fresh produce to an increasingly diverse range of international destinations.
Lastly, the strategic focus on market diversification and rigorous monitoring continues to strengthen the country’s position as a major international supplier.
