Cosumar CEO Imad Ghammad takes over at FIMASUCRE as Morocco’s sugar federation pledges continuity and farmer-focused growth.

MOROCCO – Morocco’s sugar industry body, FIMASUCRE, has elected Imad Ghammad as its new president following Hassan Mounir’s decision to step down from the role, marking a leadership transition at a key moment for the national sugar sector.
Mounir, who previously served as Deputy Chief Executive of sugar subsidiaries and later as Chief Executive Officer of Cosumar, was credited by board members for driving major reforms across the value chain.
“His leadership was a key factor in strengthening the sector’s ability to adapt to changing economic and environmental conditions,” board members said, citing advances in digitalisation, modernisation of industrial facilities and the adoption of new agricultural technologies.
During his tenure, Mounir oversaw strategic shifts in upstream agricultural operations that helped improve farm productivity and boost farmer incomes, while also increasing the resilience of Morocco’s sugar industry.
Ghammad, who currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Cosumar Group, brings extensive industry experience to the presidency. His background includes the design and implementation of programmes focused on improving crop yields, optimising farming practices and reinforcing farmer advisory systems.
He has also led the integration of innovative agricultural solutions and management tools to enhance resource efficiency and competitiveness across the sugar sector.
FIMASUCRE’s board said the transition would ensure continuity in its development strategy. “With this appointment, we reaffirm our commitment to building a strong, competitive and sustainable sugar sector,” the federation said.
The board added that it will continue to prioritise support for farmers and national food security. “Our objective remains to contribute to Morocco’s food sovereignty while maintaining a development model based on shared performance across the entire sugar value chain,” FIMASUCRE stated.
Ghammad’s election positions the federation to carry forward ongoing initiatives aimed at sustainability, productivity and long-term sector growth, while reinforcing collaboration between growers, processors and industry stakeholders nationwide.
