Generous Brands acquires Health-Ade Kombucha in US$500M deal

Generous Brands expands its footprint in the premium beverage sector by acquiring Health-Ade, targeting growth in functional drinks.

UK – Generous Brands, a major player in the premium refrigerated beverage industry, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Health-Ade Kombucha in a deal valued at approximately US$500 million, according to individuals familiar with the matter.

The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025.

This strategic acquisition is projected to bring Generous Brands’ total retail sales close to US$1 billion, significantly enhancing its presence in the fast-growing functional beverage market.

Generous Brands currently owns a diverse portfolio, including Bolthouse Farms, Evolution Fresh, and Sambazon.

Founded in 2012, Health-Ade Kombucha has grown into a leading brand in the kombucha segment, known for its clean, organic ingredients and wide range of gut-friendly beverages.

The company’s annual retail sales are nearing US$250 million, with products available in approximately 65,000 retail outlets across the United States.

Steve Cornell, CEO of Generous Brands, stated, “Consumers have entirely redefined the role of beverages… looking for beverages that are also enhanced with healthier ingredients and nutritional benefits.” He noted that the acquisition aligns with the company’s mission to offer vibrant nutrition through functional and premium beverages.

The kombucha market has witnessed steady expansion, driven by increased consumer demand for probiotic-rich and wellness-oriented drinks.

According to Mordor Intelligence, the global kombucha market is projected to reach US$3.25 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow to US$6.23 billion by 2030, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.9%.

Health-Ade’s focus on clean-label, organic offerings has helped it build strong consumer loyalty, especially among health-conscious buyers. Chris Lansing, CEO of Health-Ade, described the acquisition as a “natural evolution” for the company and a significant step for the broader premium beverage category.

“Health-Ade and Generous Brands are aligned in their unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional taste while prioritising clean, nutritious ingredients,” Lansing said.

Post-acquisition, Generous Brands plans to leverage its robust manufacturing infrastructure and distribution capabilities to scale Health-Ade’s operations and expand its market presence.

The combined strength of both brands is expected to drive innovation and further investment in the functional beverage space, benefiting retail partners and consumers alike.
