Grimme rolls out upgraded two-row varitron harvester with major improvements

The new Varitron combines operator comfort, clearer visibility, and improved crop separation in one updated machine.

GERMANY – Grimme has launched the latest version of its two-row, self-propelled Varitron harvester, bringing a wide range of updates aimed at improving the working experience and boosting harvesting efficiency.

The company says the new design balances comfort, control, and better handling of crops, particularly potatoes and vegetables.

The redesigned cab now includes the CCI 1200 terminal and SmartView monitoring system as standard. Operators can use the 12-inch SmartView screen to monitor up to 13 camera feeds, which include live slow-motion and zoom functions.

This helps workers see what’s happening in real time during harvesting, even in low-light conditions.

Grimme has also introduced comfort upgrades. The cab features a leather seat, two-zone automatic climate control, and an LED lighting system.

Narrow cab pillars and a wide windscreen improve visibility, especially of the intake area. These changes are meant to reduce operator fatigue and help with safer, more efficient machine handling.

“The focus on visibility and comfort makes long harvesting hours much more manageable,” said a company spokesperson.

Crop flow and separation upgrades

In addition to the user comfort features, Grimme has made key changes to improve how the Varitron handles crops.

The roller separator now has a new spiral roller design. This upgrade nearly doubles the spiral height and uses new materials to allow more impurities to pass through while reducing wear and tear.

Grimme’s separator system remains flexible. Operators can still choose between the Double MultiSep system or a roller separator paired with MultiSep. The company also continues to offer TwinSep, which protects delicate crops during separation.

Support for precision agriculture has also been added. The new Varitron can now work with yield recording and mapping systems, helping farmers manage their fields with more accuracy.

Mechanical parts are easier to swap thanks to standardized coupling points – something previously only available in Grimme’s four-row models.

Built for changing conditions

The new Varitron is built to work across different soils and crops. The intake system can be adjusted without tools, making it faster for crews to switch setups. From inside the cab, operators can also reverse key parts of the harvester – like the main webs and elevators – to clear blockages safely.

To support in-field work, Grimme is offering a weather roof option with or without side panels. The white roof surface is designed to help crews spot green tubers, making it easier to maintain quality during harvest.

Growing global reach

Grimme’s recent work in Tanzania shows how its technology can help farmers. Through its mechanization push, over 1,000 Tanzanian farmers have doubled their potato yields.

The company has also grown its presence across Europe, the U.S., China, and parts of Africa and Asia.

“Grimme is proud to support farmers worldwide with reliable, easy-to-use machines,” the spokesperson added.

As farmers face rising demands on quality and efficiency, the updated Varitron could offer much-needed help during peak harvest seasons.
