Lipton appoints Grant Reid as chair to drive regenerative agriculture, consumer value

He will collaborate closely with Marc Busain, who took over as chief executive last October.

NETHERLANDS – Lipton Teas & Infusions has appointed Grant Reid as its new board chair, effective immediately. Reid joins after a 34-year career at Mars, where he served as chief executive and president for nearly 9 years until January 2023.

Reid began his career at Mars as a marketing manager in 1988, later holding roles including global president of Mars Drinks and global president of Mars Chocolate before becoming CEO. He will collaborate closely with Marc Busain, who took over as chief executive last October.

I am delighted to join Lipton as chair at such an exciting time for the company. Lipton is a business with wonderful brands, real heritage, and a place in people’s everyday lives all over the world,” Reid remarked.

He added, “Businesses like this succeed through creating value for consumers, partners and communities, with purpose and performance going hand in hand.”

Reid’s background in regenerative agriculture could significantly influence Lipton’s sourcing strategy.

Case in point, from 2021 to 2024, Reid chaired the Sustainable Markets Initiative Agribusiness Taskforce at the request of King Charles III, convening international business leaders to promote regenerative agriculture.

As a former Mars executive, Reid’s track record includes global expansion at Mars, navigating complex supply chains and consumer trends across multiple continents.

In addition, his board experience includes serving on the boards of Vanguard and Marriott International, as well as involvement with the Consumer Goods Forum, where he co-chaired the Governance Committee and played a significant role in the Forest Positive Initiative.

More than ever, this leadership change signals a refined focus on purpose-driven performance and long-term corporate governance.

For industry stakeholders, Reid’s appointment suggests that Lipton is prioritizing sustainable sourcing, regenerative agriculture, and consumer value over short-term volume targets.

Busain expressed enthusiasm: “I am thrilled that someone with the stature and experience of Grant has agreed to become our new chair, and I am confident he will be an invaluable support and source of wisdom and challenge for all of us.”

Furthermore, Reid’s experience in balancing corporate growth with sustainability commitments aligns with evolving consumer expectations for ethically sourced tea.

As a result, this leadership signals long-term stability and a commitment to building resilient, sustainable tea supply chains.

Reid has served on the boards of Vanguard and Marriott International since leaving Mars, balancing these commitments with his role at Lipton Teas & Infusions.
