Maersk expands AI-powered Trade & Tariff Studio to navigate evolving customs regulations

The expanded platform reflects a broader shift in how importers are approaching customs management.

GLOBAL – Maersk has expanded its AI-powered Trade & Tariff Studio into a connected customs intelligence platform that links trade planning, compliance, and audit support in a single workflow to help businesses navigate evolving global trade regulations.

Building on the platform’s initial launch in 2025, the enhanced release addresses the challenges of overlapping government requirements and complex tariff exposure.

The digital solution integrates trade intelligence directly into the early stages of the supply chain, allowing businesses to analyze duty exposure and compliance risks before manufacturing or shipping begins.

Mark Zeitlin, Global Head of Customs Innovation at Maersk, said: “The future of customs will be more predictive, more connected and more closely tied to the decisions businesses make long before goods reach the border. With Maersk Trade & Tariff Studio, we’re helping customers bring trade intelligence into sourcing, product design and compliance planning earlier, so they can better understand risk, manage costs and make more informed supply chain decisions before shipments move.”

AI-Powered Compliance and Classification

By utilizing conversational AI and automated classification, the platform helps importers navigate overlapping government requirements while maintaining audit readiness. Users can interact using natural language, upload product photos and technical documents, or submit product links to receive trade and compliance insights in seconds.

The enhanced release helps customers understand classification and duty implications earlier through AI-powered HTS guidance and supporting logic. It also enables evaluation of sourcing and product design decisions by modeling how materials, production locations and tariff changes may affect landed costs.

Moreover, high-volume retailers and manufacturers can reduce manual effort across large product portfolios with bulk catalogue classification for thousands of SKUs.

Strategic Customs Management and Future Outlook

The expanded platform reflects a broader shift in how importers are approaching customs management. Rather than treating classification, entry preparation, filing visibility, and audit review as separate steps, Maersk is connecting these activities across the customs lifecycle, from early product and sourcing analysis through post-declaration review.

The system shifts customs management from a reactive filing process to a predictive strategy that influences sourcing and product design.

In addition, the platform also continuously scans regulatory developments, tariff actions and customs rulings, helping customers monitor emerging trade risks.

Finally, this technology provides high-volume retailers and manufacturers with a unified workflow to monitor regulatory changes and optimize costs across the entire product lifecycle.
