Mondelēz creates a new COO role, naming CFO Luca Zaramella to oversee global operations and commercial performance.

USA – Mondelēz International has announced the appointment of Luca Zaramella as Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective February 1, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening execution and accelerating decision-making across the global confectionery and snacking group.
In addition to his current role as Chief Financial Officer, Zaramella will assume responsibility for Mondelēz International’s commercial operations across its four geographical regions, as well as corporate sales, marketing, and supply chain functions.
The company said Zaramella will continue to report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dirk Van de Put.
“I am pleased to announce Luca’s appointment as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer,” said Van de Put.
“Luca is a strong operational and financial leader with deep knowledge of our business and a consistent record of driving strong results. It is vital that we stay agile and continue to raise the bar on our operational excellence in an environment that has never been more dynamic.”
Zaramella has been a member of Mondelēz International’s executive leadership team since 2018, serving as CFO during a period marked by portfolio reshaping, productivity initiatives, and inflationary pressures across global consumer markets.
“I’m honored to step into this role for Mondelēz, expanding my focus on executional excellence and commercial performance across our organization,” Zaramella said. “I am inspired by our people, brands and capabilities, with vast potential to deliver attractive, long-lasting growth and create value for years to come.”
A company spokesperson told Reuters that the newly created COO role is designed to enhance execution and increase the speed of decision-making across the organization. The change will also allow Van de Put to focus more closely on major strategic initiatives, long-term growth priorities, and value creation.
Mondelēz International has faced volume pressures as value-conscious consumers moderated spending on premium-priced chocolates and snacks while seeking healthier alternatives. The company is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter results on February 3.
In 2024, Mondelēz International reported net revenues of approximately US$36.4 billion, supported by brands such as Oreo, Ritz, Cadbury Dairy Milk, and Milka. The group operates in more than 150 countries and has highlighted pricing, mix, and productivity gains as key levers to manage cost inflation.
