Oman invites bids for an agri-tourism fruit farm at Jabal Shams Grand Canyon

This project offers a unique opportunity to integrate commercial fruit farming with tourism revenue.

OMAN – The Dakhliyah governorate has invited private investors to bid to construct, develop, and operate a fruit farm as part of the Jabal Shams Grand Canyon View project, which combines commercial agriculture with luxury tourism near one of Oman’s most popular mountain destinations.

The project will be offered to investors for 25 years, with the construction and preparation phase set at 2 years and 6 months.

Spanning approximately 148,000 square metres at an altitude of around 3,000 metres, the development aims to attract adventure seekers and families alike.

To begin with, the planned attractions include a recreational area, a glass walkway, a tourist resort, a zipline, a hiking trail, geological exhibitions, a rock garden, and an adventure centre.

Secondly, a 200-metre zipline and a 97-metre glass walkway will offer panoramic views of the canyon, while a public square with 12 kiosks will showcase Omani culture, with fresh fruit, vegetables, traditional sweets, and souvenirs.

For Middle Eastern food investors, this project offers a unique opportunity to integrate commercial fruit farming with tourism revenue.

For instance, the tender specifies a 9,830-square-metre fruit farm, with additional features such as a coffee farm, fruit orchards, a summer camp, and a seasonal activities garden.

Additionally, a 500-seat theatre, kiosks selling seasonal produce, and an information centre will provide cultural experiences for visitors.

The initiative marks a strategic push to diversify Oman’s economy by combining modern agricultural practices with the region’s natural geological beauty. Officials said the project is part of ongoing efforts to create new investment opportunities and diversify economic activity.

The development aims to enhance agri-tourism by integrating fruit cultivation with tourism experiences, enabling visitors to explore local agricultural activities while enjoying the scenic mountain landscape.

The 25-year investment horizon provides long-term certainty for capital-intensive projects, such as orchard establishment, irrigation systems, and hospitality infrastructure. Interested investors can obtain tender documents via the Tatweer platform.

The broader Jabal Shams Grand Canyon View project includes geological exhibits showcasing Oman’s diverse landscapes, a children’s recreation area with games and creative workshops, and hiking trails designed to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the mountain destination.

By transforming high-altitude landscapes into premier destinations for international travellers and food-industry stakeholders alike, Oman is positioning agri-tourism as a cornerstone of sustainable economic diversification.
