Sun World, Clarifresh team up to boost produce quality control

New AI-powered software to help Sun World growers improve consistency from field to shelf.

EGYPT – Sun World has announced a partnership with Clarifresh, a company that provides AI-driven quality control tools for fresh food.

The collaboration is expected to help Sun World’s network of growers and packer-shippers better manage produce quality, starting with its operations in Egypt and Italy.

Clarifresh’s software uses real-time data to assess fresh produce, including grapes, with a high level of accuracy. By using this tool, Sun World aims to create a consistent and reliable system for judging quality across its supply chain.

“Our objective is to provide our licensees with the most up-to-date tools for quality management and serve as a catalyst for new AI advancements,” said Pablo Gomez, Director of Quality Insights at Sun World.

“We’re committed to delivering top-quality grapes to final customers, and this partnership will help us achieve that goal from cultivation to delivery.”

Clarifresh’s technology uses computer vision and data analysis to monitor the condition of fresh fruits and vegetables. According to the company, this makes it easier for growers and retailers to make informed decisions at each stage of the supply chain.

“This partnership is a significant step forward in improving quality standardization for Sun World’s global network of growers,” said Elad Mardix, CEO and Co-Founder of Clarifresh.

“By leveraging our AI-powered quality management solutions, growers can maintain greater consistency, reduce customer rejections, and create a unified framework for assessing quality at every stage, down to the seed level.”

Sun World’s aim is to ensure its produce meets its quality standards no matter where or how it is grown. The tools offered by Clarifresh will help improve checks at the source and reduce waste further along the chain.

Field days and new additions

To showcase the benefits of the partnership, Sun World plans to host two field days at its headquarters in Bakersfield, California.

Growers attending the event will get a chance to see how the Clarifresh system works and how it could be used in their operations. Clarifresh will also take part in the event to demonstrate the platform’s features.

This news follows Sun World’s recent expansion after acquiring Biogold, a variety rights manager based in South Africa. The deal added citrus and mangoes to its growing portfolio, along with increased access to markets in Africa and Asia.

Clarifresh, formerly Clarifruit, also rolled out a new self-onboarding system aimed at helping small and mid-sized businesses use AI to improve their quality checks.

The tool gives smaller players in the supply chain access to insights that were once only available to larger companies.

Together, Sun World and Clarifresh hope to help all growers – large or small – meet high standards and deliver better products to customers worldwide.
