The partnership represents a collective effort to build a more resilient agricultural sector in China.

CHINA – Syngenta Group China, McDonald’s China, and McCain China have signed a strategic partnership agreement to modernize the potato supply chain through sustainable farming practices, precision agriculture, and advanced digital technologies.
The three parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo to transform local potato farming, supply, and processing.
The initiative focuses on implementing science-based approaches to potato production that address soil health, customized crop stewardship, precision fertigation, integrated pest management, and intelligent field monitoring.
These practices aim to improve crop quality while ensuring a consistent food supply for McDonald’s fries.
The partnership will leverage smart monitoring tools and digital farming solutions to enhance traceability and resource efficiency across the entire production cycle.
For instance, through Syngenta’s network of MAP technical service centres, farmers will gain access to agronomic inputs and modern farming services designed to boost productivity and reduce environmental impact.
“Agriculture today faces mounting pressure from yield and resource constraints, requiring a shift from volume expansion to resilience building,” said SU Fu, President of Syngenta Group China.
Furthermore, the collaboration aims to boost farmer incomes by providing innovative technologies and modern farming services.
“Syngenta aims to provide innovative technologies and modern farming services to potato farmers, helping to support farm incomes and strengthen the value chain,” Su added.
The initiative adopts a “test, learn, and scale” model, with plans to expand successful practices after the initial pilot season.
McDonald’s dedication to consistent taste and quality begins with potato cultivation, according to Jim SHI, Chief Supply Chain Officer of McDonald’s China. “By drawing on Syngenta’s agronomic expertise and sustainable solutions, we aim to support a reliable supply of potatoes for our fries“.
McCain China Managing Director LIU Linlin noted that the MoU reflects a shared commitment to sustainable agricultural technologies and digital traceability for quality assurance.
The partnership represents a collective effort to build a more resilient agricultural sector in China.
Therefore, by combining Syngenta’s agricultural expertise, McDonald’s quality standards, and McCain’s processing capabilities, the three companies aim to strengthen the entire potato value chain while ensuring premium fries for Chinese consumers.
