Tanzania boosts local manufacturing as Lomatan launches Riviera alcohol Brands

Tanzania strengthens local manufacturing and anti-counterfeit efforts as Lomatan launches Riviera alcohol range, highlighting investment growth and renewed focus on consumer safety and market regulation.

TANZANIA – Tanzania has renewed its push for local industrial investment while stepping up efforts to curb counterfeit alcohol following the launch of four new Riviera brand products by Lomatan.

The development reflects growing confidence in the country’s manufacturing sector and the expansion of formal beverage production.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Industry and Trade Judith Kapinga said the government has created a more favourable business environment to encourage domestic investment and support enterprise growth.

“This investment demonstrates that Tanzanians have the capacity to compete and invest in any sector,” Kapinga said, referring to Lomatan as a locally owned alcoholic beverage producer.

The event also highlighted ongoing efforts to combat counterfeit and illicit alcohol. Kapinga noted that the government, through the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), will continue intensifying enforcement measures to eliminate uncertified alcoholic products from the market.

“These measures aim to protect consumers while ensuring fair competition for legitimate producers who follow proper manufacturing standards and tax regulations,” she said.

Loveness Mamuya, founder of Lomatan, emphasised the public health risks associated with unregulated beverages, describing counterfeit alcohol consumption as “economic sabotage against society’s health.” She called on citizens to actively support government efforts by rejecting unsafe products.

“True patriotism means protecting the health of drinkers,” Mamuya said, urging women in particular to take a leading role in combating fake alcohol products that may contain harmful chemicals and additives.

Lomatan introduced four new products under its Riviera brand: Jagaboom, Lomatan Whiskey, Lomatan Gin, and Lomatan Vodka all developed with technical expertise from Germany to ensure quality and consumer safety.

The collaboration highlights the increasing sophistication of Tanzania’s manufacturing sector, supported by growing investment and international partnerships.

The country’s alcoholic beverage market is estimated to exceed US$400 million annually, with further growth potential driven by rising disposable incomes and expanding consumer demand.
