The Magnum Ice Cream Company opens Bengaluru R&D centre to accelerate ice cream innovation in India

The Bengaluru facility will drive consumer-led product, packaging and process innovation while strengthening India’s role in TMICC’s global ice cream research network.

INDIA – The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC) has inaugurated a new Research, Design & Innovation (RD&I) Centre in Bengaluru, India, to accelerate consumer-led product and packaging innovation across its portfolio of ice cream brands.

The facility, located in Whitefield, is expected to strengthen the company’s innovation capabilities as demand for premium and locally relevant ice cream products continues to grow in the Indian market.

The new centre will support innovation across TMICC’s brands, including Kwality Wall’s, Cornetto, Magnum, Carte D’Or, Feast and Twister.

Its capabilities cover product and process development, packaging innovation, consumer technical insights and regulatory assessment, enabling the company to respond more quickly to changing consumer preferences.

“The new Bengaluru ice cream centre will help us respond faster to evolving consumer preferences, create products that are relevant to Indian tastes and occasions,” said Chitrank Goel, Deputy Managing Director of Kwality Wall’s (India) Limited.

The RD&I Centre is equipped with advanced ice cream manufacturing facilities, sensory testing laboratories, packaging assessment technologies, a digitally enabled pilot plant, cold-chain and climate testing infrastructure, and 3D packaging prototyping capabilities.

The facility will support the development of a broad range of ice cream formats, including cups, sticks, cones, kulfi and premium ice cream cakes.

According to the company, the Bengaluru centre will work closely with TMICC’s Global Design Centre in Colworth, United Kingdom, and its Regional Innovation Hub in Istanbul, Turkey.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate the development of products tailored to local consumer preferences while leveraging the company’s global research expertise.

“From product and packaging development to sensory assessment and cold-chain validation, this new centre will play an important role in creating products that are more relevant, more distinctive and more exciting for consumers in India,” said Zbigniew Lewicki, Chief Research, Development & Innovation Officer at The Magnum Ice Cream Company.

TMICC said the Bengaluru facility will play a central role in supporting Kwality Wall’s innovation pipeline and strengthening the company’s ability to introduce new products to the fast-growing Indian ice cream market.

The investment follows another recent expansion by the company, which invested US$13.06 million (HUF4 billion) to modernise its manufacturing facility in Veszprém, Hungary.

The upgrade included the installation of a new production line aimed at strengthening manufacturing efficiency and reinforcing Hungary’s role within TMICC’s European supply network.

József Török, Factory Director at TMICC’s Veszprém facility, said, “Operationally, this investment strengthens our ability to execute complex formats with consistency, precision and reliability.”

Headquartered in Amsterdam, TMICC generated €7.9 billion in revenue in 2025 and operates 32 manufacturing facilities, 13 research and development centres, and approximately three million freezer cabinets serving consumers across 80 markets worldwide.
