Philippines officially opens market to Brazilian bone-in beef and offal

PHILIPPINES – The Philippines is opening its market to Brazilian bone-in beef and offal following an announcement confirmed by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

The confirmation comes after a mission to the Philippines by the Brazilian Meat Exporting Industry Association (ABIEC), which had already received an initial signal of approval from local authorities during discussions earlier this month.

ABIEC’s Director of Strategic Affairs, Julio Ramos, who represented the association’s president Roberto Perosa, led the delegation in Manila, working closely with the Brazilian Embassy.

The embassy’s ambassador, Gilberto Moura, and agricultural attaché Virgínia Carpi took part in the talks, which were finalized through a statement by Philippine Deputy Secretary of Livestock Benjamin Albarece.

The confirmation was announced during the Brazilian Beef Dinner in Manila, an event that gathered around 200 guests and 20 Brazilian meat companies.

Alongside the announcement, ABIEC also participated for the first time in the World Food Expo (WOFEX), the Philippines’ largest food and beverage trade exhibition, presenting Brazilian beef under the Brazilian Beef program in collaboration with ApexBrasil.

The trade show provided ABIEC with an opportunity to display the variety of beef products available from Brazil, with a focus on building connections with importers and local authorities.

During the visit, the Brazilian delegation also met with representatives of the Philippine government and leading figures in the business sector, continuing a series of engagements intended to strengthen existing trade relations.

The Philippines already ranks sixth among buyers of Brazilian beef, placing it as the second-largest market in Southeast Asia for these exports.

Currently, Brazil supplies about 40 percent of the Philippines’ total beef imports, and the expanded access is expected to allow shipments of additional categories such as higher-value cuts and offal.

Industry representatives in both countries say the development is likely to create broader opportunities for Brazilian exporters while meeting growing demand in the Philippine market.
