AGL opens Abidjan-Bamako multimodal corridor, streamlines Mali’s landlocked trade

This tri-country collaboration reduces border delays and improves traceability for time-sensitive shipments.

MALI – Africa Global Logistics has introduced a new multimodal corridor connecting Abidjan to Bamako via Bobo-Dioulasso, combining rail and road transport to streamline operations and enhance the security of goods throughout the journey.

This corridor provides a reliable means of moving perishable goods into and out of Mali. This landlocked country relies on robust logistics corridors to remain competitive in trade.

Why Multimodal Connectivity Matters for Landlocked Mali

Because Mali relies entirely on neighbouring countries for access to seaports, efficient logistics corridors are essential to ensure a steady flow of essential goods, including food, fuel, and industrial inputs. The new Abidjan-Bamako corridor is designed to streamline operations and strengthen cargo security throughout the journey.

The initiative is supported by a network of integrated infrastructure across West Africa, including rail hubs, dry ports, and logistics platforms, as well as close coordination between operational teams and customs authorities in Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Mali. This tri-country collaboration reduces border delays and improves traceability for time-sensitive shipments.

Proven Effectiveness and Operational Benefits

With this approach, operations such as shipment traceability, reduced transit times, and fulfilment of the needs of Mali’s industrial and economic sectors will receive a significant boost. The corridor has already proven its effectiveness through past trials and is now gearing up for expansion.

For food businesses, shorter transit times mean fresher produce upon arrival. Improved traceability allows better monitoring of cold chain integrity. Enhanced security reduces the risk of theft or damage to high-value perishable cargo such as fruits, vegetables, and meat products.

Value for Fresh Produce Trade

The Abidjan-Bamako corridor offers a practical solution to improve reliability and logistics performance in West Africa. By integrating rail and road networks, AGL has created a seamless link between the port of Abidjan, one of West Africa’s most efficient gateways, and Mali’s capital.

This reduces dependency on more congested or less secure routes, offering predictable transit schedules for perishable exports and imports. As the corridor expands, it will further strengthen Mali’s position in regional food trade and attract investment in cold storage and processing facilities along the route.
