DP World, CMA CGM enable Japan-Philippines shipping route for Ichijo
Reduced port congestion means fewer delays for reefer containers awaiting discharge.
PHILIPPINES – DP World and CMA CGM have launched a weekly Japan-Philippines shipping route for Ichijo Komuten by leveraging CMA CGM’s JP8 service.
The weekly service, which began on 18 March, marks the first regular international shipping connection between Sendai and the Philippines in eight years.
For fresh produce logistics professionals across the Middle East and Africa, the partnership offers valuable lessons in reducing transit times and enhancing supply chain visibility for perishable goods.
Direct Shipping: A Model for Perishable Trade
The JP8 service calls at Manila South Harbour and Batangas Integrated Port, both operated by DP World’s strategic local partner, Asian Terminals Inc., which serve as critical gateways for cargo moving into and out of the Philippines.
For food exporters, direct shipping routes eliminate transhipment delays that often compromise the cold chain. A weekly dedicated service provides predictable scheduling, enabling precise coordination of harvesting, packing, and shipping windows for time-sensitive products.

DP World’s partner terminals in Manila and Batangas are supported by inland and marine solutions that help reduce congestion, improve transit times, and enhance visibility across the supply chain.

In addition, reduced port congestion means fewer delays for reefer containers awaiting discharge. On the other hand, improved transit visibility enables real-time tracking of temperature-sensitive shipments, enabling proactive responses to potential cold-chain disruptions.
