Kenya Airports Authority appoints Moses Wekesa as CEO, eyes infrastructure expansion

KENYA – Kenya Airports Authority has appointed Moses Wekesa as CEO, bringing infrastructure expertise to lead major aviation expansion projects.
According to a statement issued in Nairobi on April 14, 2026, the board of directors made the decision following a rigorous, competitive interview process.
Wekesa brings extensive experience across Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa to this role. He previously served as Business Development Director at KenGen, where he led initiatives to drive core business growth.
The authority noted that Wekesa’s background in infrastructure development positions him well to support the expansion of Kenya’s aviation sector.
In addition, his academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, and postgraduate qualifications in finance, appraisal, and project planning from the University of Bradford.
This leadership change comes at a pivotal moment. The authority is currently implementing projects to modernize and expand Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya’s primary gateway for airfreighted fresh produce.
For stakeholders in the logistics and export sectors, these improvements directly affect the reliability of the cold chain for avocados, cut flowers, and other time-sensitive perishables destined for European and Middle Eastern markets.
A modernized airport with efficient cargo handling reduces transit times, minimizes spoilage risk, and enhances Kenya’s competitiveness as a regional transport hub.
The board acknowledged the service of Mohamud Gedi, General Manager of Finance, who served as Acting Managing Director. It noted that the transition was managed smoothly while airport development programmes were progressing.
These efforts aim to strengthen Kenya’s role in regional aviation and logistics and to increase the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
In the statement, the board expressed its support for Wekesa as he assumes the role and continues implementing ongoing initiatives across the country’s airport network. The authority said it remains focused on developing, managing, and operating airports and airstrips as part of its mandate.
