In the first quarter of 2026, TEU traffic increased by over 60% compared to the same period last year.

BRAZIL – JBS Terminals has expanded its operational capacity at the Port of Itajaí by approximately 330% since starting operations in October 2024.
In a year and a half, the company handled more than 560,000 TEUs, with an average monthly growth of 12%.
For fresh produce exporters and food logistics investors, this rapid expansion signals improved connectivity for perishable cargo moving between South America and key markets.
Massive Investment in Infrastructure and Technology
Since the start of operations, the company has invested approximately R$ 220 million (US$ 43 million) in technological modernization and infrastructure. This investment enabled the acquisition of two state-of-the-art mobile cranes, with a capacity of 125 tonnes and a reach of up to 20 rows of containers, increasing productivity in loading and unloading operations.
The strategy also strengthened the terminal’s vocation for the protein and refrigerated cargo sectors, with the installation of 1,708 reefer outlets.
The expansion of electrical capacity positions Itajaí as one of the main hubs for perishable products in southern Brazil, meeting the demands of exporters and importers for high-temperature control standards.
Direct Statement from Leadership
“To reach this level, JBS Terminals invested in the assets. Today, more than 3,000 clients trust the company and the infrastructure offered at the Port of Itajaí as one of the main entry and exit points for international trade,” said Aristides Russi Junior, president of JBS Terminals.
“Our commitment is to connect Itajaí and Santa Catarina to major global markets.”
Operational Capacity and Global Connectivity
Currently, the terminal has an operational area of 180,000 square metres, 1,030 metres of quay, and four berths with a depth of 14 metres.
This structure allows it to operate with 10 regular shipping lines and seven weekly calls, connecting the state of Santa Catarina to strategic destinations in Asia, Europe, throughout the Americas, the Middle East, and Africa.
Additionally, in the first quarter of 2026, TEU traffic increased by over 60% compared to the same period last year.
What This Means for Fresh Produce Importers
For fresh-produce buyers, increased reefer capacity at Itajaí creates new opportunities to source Brazilian fruits, vegetables, and protein products.
The 1,708 refrigerated outlets ensure that perishable shipments, including melons, grapes, mangoes, and processed fruit products, maintain cold-chain integrity from the South American farm gate to consumers in Africa and the Gulf.
