Melitta Group to invest over US$116.4M in Bremen coffee plant expansion

Melitta Group will invest over €100 million in its Bremen coffee facility to boost capacity by 50% and support its long-term global expansion strategy.

GERMANY – The Melitta Group has announced plans to invest more than €100 million (US$116.44M) in expanding its coffee production site in Bremen, Germany, as part of its long-term growth and international expansion strategy.

The investment is a key component of the company’s “Melitta 2033” strategy, which targets at least a doubling of group sales by 2033.

The company said the project will increase production capacity at its Bremen coffee roasting facility by around 50% over the next five to six years.

Melitta stated that the investment is intended to support rising global demand for roasted coffee products while enhancing operational flexibility, sustainability, and product quality at the site.

Planned upgrades include the acquisition of two adjacent plots of land, construction of a new building, and the expansion and modernisation of existing infrastructure. The investment will also cover new roasting, packaging, and silo systems, along with upgraded process control technologies.

Jero Bentz, member of corporate communications and great-grandson of company founder Melitta Bentz, said: “The goal of our Strategy 2033 is to at least double the Group’s sales by then. A central lever for this is the coffee business in Europe.”

He added: “With these investments, we are creating important conditions to meet individual customer and market needs even better and thus achieve our growth and internationalisation goals in the coming years.”

Headquartered in Minden, Germany, the family-owned company operates in 75 countries and employs around 5,500 people.

According to preliminary 2025 results, Melitta increased revenue by 18% year-on-year to €2.53 billion (US$2.95B), with growth driven mainly by its coffee businesses across Europe, North America, and South America.

Adjusted for currency effects, revenue growth reached 21%, reflecting strong international demand and consolidated market positions across key regions.
