Pick n Pay, Vivo Energy launch Botswana’s first 24-hour Pick n Pay Go store

Partnership brings a new convenience retail model to Shell service stations across the country

BOTSWANA – Pick n Pay and Vivo Energy Botswana have opened the country’s first Pick n Pay Go store, introducing a new model of convenience retail in the country.

The first outlet has been unveiled at the Shell Village service station, setting the stage for more stores to open across Botswana in the coming months.

Pick n Pay Go stores are designed to cater to shoppers on the move, operating 24 hours a day and offering a selection of freshly baked goods, coffee, snacks, drinks, and much more.

The collaboration aligns with Vivo Energy Botswana’s plan to make its Shell service stations more customer-oriented by integrating retail and food service options into the forecourt experience.

Over the past year, the company has expanded this strategy by working with several quick-service restaurant and retail partners to diversify its on-site offerings.

This latest move follows Pick n Pay’s decision two months ago to shift all 13 of its Botswana franchise stores to corporate ownership, a step the retailer said would enhance store quality, customer service, and product variety.

Pick n Pay Botswana managing director Leon de Lange said the new store format is meant to simplify shopping for customers seeking faster and easier access to daily goods.

He noted that the partnership allows Pick n Pay to reach more customers while strengthening its operations in Botswana’s retail sector.

De Lange added that the company views Botswana as a stable and growing market within Southern Africa, with strong potential for continued investment and expansion.

Expanding customer convenience

Vivo Energy Botswana managing director Sesupo Wagamang said the initiative demonstrates the changing needs of consumers who now expect efficiency and variety when stopping for fuel.

He explained that today’s motorists want more than just refueling options, preferring spaces that provide both convenience and quality.

According to Wagamang, the expansion of retail partnerships at Shell service stations also supports local economic activity by creating employment opportunities and encouraging small business participation.

He added that the collaboration with Pick n Pay contributes to a broader effort to strengthen Botswana’s retail ecosystem and promote sustainable community growth.
