Symrise aims to help its customers respond more quickly to shifting consumer trends, accelerate innovation cycles, and enhance supply chain resilience.

BARCELONA – Symrise has officially launched its first global Data & AI Hub in Barcelona, marking a significant milestone in its digitalization strategy and underscoring the company’s commitment to data-driven innovation.
The new hub is designed to develop advanced solutions that strengthen Symrise’s offerings across its core customer markets, which include food, beverages, nutrition, pet food, fragrances, and personal and household care.
The hub began operations with around 25 postgraduates participating in a 12-month program that combines structured learning with practical experience.
This initiative aims to establish long-term in-house data and AI expertise, ensuring that Symrise develops a sustainable talent pipeline for the future.
Participants, drawn from diverse academic backgrounds such as computer science, physics, and bioinformatics, gain exposure to real-world projects, mentorship from senior digital experts, and career opportunities within the company.
Barcelona was selected as the hub’s location due to its rich talent pool, strong academic institutions, and dynamic technology ecosystem.
Symrise also highlighted the city’s connectivity and its existing company footprint as key factors.
The facility provides an inspiring environment where ideas can be tested, prototypes built, and solutions scaled to deliver measurable business benefits.
The hub’s scope spans six core areas of Symrise’s operations: finance, research and development, procurement, supply chain, consumer insights, and sustainability.
By integrating digital tools across these domains, Symrise aims to help its customers respond more quickly to shifting consumer trends, accelerate innovation cycles, and enhance supply chain resilience. The goal is to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and personalized products more efficiently in increasingly competitive markets.
Eliza Millet, Chief Digital & Information Officer at Symrise, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, “The #BCN Hub will become an in-house center for innovation, collaboration, and transformation at Symrise. It will allow us to accelerate product development, strengthen strategic business planning, and boost operational efficiency.”
Chief Transformation Officer Nick Russel added that digitalization is not only about advancing projects but also about opening new creative approaches to challenges and enhancing value for customers.
In addition to training and internal development, the hub is integrated into Barcelona’s broader innovation ecosystem.
Symrise has partnered with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona for recruitment and collaborates with technology leaders such as Microsoft, participating in community events to foster knowledge exchange.
Technologically, the hub leverages Symrise’s established digital platforms. These include the Atl@s Lakehouse built on Databricks for advanced analytics, UiPath for process automation, and Mendix for rapid application development.
This integrated infrastructure allows for fast prototyping and smooth scaling of solutions, reinforcing Symrise’s ability to deliver agile responses to customer needs.
The Barcelona hub represents Symrise’s first facility of this kind and serves as a blueprint for future expansions worldwide.
By investing in data-driven solutions and digital talent, Symrise aims to consolidate its position as a leader in innovation for the food, beverage, scent, and care industries.
