Aviagen appoints long-serving executive to lead its North American operations

USA – Aviagen has appointed Derrick Tice as president of its North America division, with the poultry breeding company confirming that he has assumed the position immediately.
Tice steps into the role after more than 15 years with Aviagen, during which he worked across operational management, quality oversight, and strategic account functions within the poultry sector.
The company said his experience in service delivery, process improvement, and customer support aligns with its plan to maintain steady growth and operational consistency across the region.
His career within Aviagen includes a series of promotions that moved him from Grandparent Poultry Specialist to Quality Assurance Manager and later to Operations Manager, followed by Director of Quality Assurance and most recently Vice President of Live Production.
These responsibilities placed him in roles tied to flock health, welfare standards, biosecurity protocols, and overall production performance, which the company noted as key to its ongoing operations.
Industry and military background
Before returning to an executive track at Aviagen, Tice worked with Boehringer Ingelheim, where he handled major commercial accounts in the poultry value chain.
In that position, he served as U.S. Poultry Strategic Account Manager and worked with large customers on growth plans, coordination, and long term account management strategies.
Alongside his industry work, Tice completed two decades of service with the Alabama Army National Guard and retired with the rank of Major.
Aviagen pointed out that his military experience, rooted in structured leadership and team coordination, has influenced his approach to managing people and operations.
Tice has received various military recognitions over the course of his service, reflecting what the company described as consistent performance in his assignments.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in agriculture with a focus on poultry science management from Mississippi State University.
Aviagen CEO Jan Henriksen said Tice has built a strong reputation within the company and the industry, adding that leadership expects a smooth transition as he takes over the regional portfolio.
