Dole completes US$75M sale of Ecuador port operations to TIL Switzerland

This strategic move concludes an agreement originally established in late 2025.

ECUADOR – Dole plc has announced that certain subsidiaries have completed the sale of the company’s port and port operations in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to TIL Switzerland Sàrl, with net proceeds of approximately US$75 million in cash after costs and customary transaction adjustments.

By liquidating these specific port assets, the fruit giant has significantly shifted its operational footprint in the South American region, offloading its maritime facilities and operations in Guayaquil to the European firm.

Strategic Rationale and Financial Impact

The divestment secures roughly US$75 million in liquid assets for Dole following various financial adjustments and transaction fees. This strategic move concludes an agreement originally established in late 2025.

The sale proceeds provide Dole with additional financial flexibility for future investments and operational priorities. The transaction also reduces Dole’s exposure to port management and maritime logistics, enabling the company to concentrate on its primary strengths in fruit sourcing, production, and distribution.

Buyer Profile and Regional Implications

TIL Switzerland Sàrl, the European buyer, acquires Dole’s port infrastructure and maritime operations in Guayaquil, one of Ecuador’s key coastal logistics hubs. The transaction transfers ownership of critical port facilities that have historically supported the export of bananas, pineapples, and other perishable goods from Ecuador to global markets.

The buyer’s acquisition of these assets signals continued interest in South American port infrastructure from European logistics operators. TIL Switzerland now gains direct control over a strategic gateway for fresh produce exports, potentially positioning the company to expand its presence in the Latin American perishable logistics market.

The port of Guayaquil serves as a vital link in the cold chain connecting Ecuadorian farms to international consumers. Its deep-water berths and refrigerated container handling capabilities have made it a key node for banana and pineapple shipments to Europe, North America, and Asia. The change in ownership could bring new investment, technology, or operational efficiencies to the facility.

Lastly, the sale represents a significant shift in Dole’s operational footprint in South America, while potentially opening new opportunities for the port’s development under European management.
