dsm-firmenich expands India operations with new seasoning hub, greenfield taste plant

The dual Indian projects intend to scale clean-label seasoning production, deliver faster flavor solutions, and support regional supply chains.

INDIA – dsm-firmenich, a global innovator in nutrition, health, and beauty, has inaugurated its newly expanded seasoning plant in Thuravoor, Kerala, while breaking ground on a greenfield Taste manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.

These investments highlight the company’s long-term commitment to scaling local production, accelerating flavor innovation, and nurturing regional talent in India.

The Thuravoor site, dsm-firmenich’s primary global hub for seasonings, will exclusively produce ethylene oxide (EtO)-free seasonings, anticipating regulatory changes and advancing clean-label innovation.

From October 2025, the expansion will significantly boost capacity, enabling faster delivery and more customized seasoning solutions for Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

This project will also create 150 new local jobs and help meet the rising demand for sustainable, high-quality ingredients.

In Gujarat, dsm-firmenich is developing a 56,000-sqm greenfield Taste plant designed to produce sweet and savory flavors using liquid compounding, dry blending, and encapsulation.

Equipped with advanced green drying technology, agile encapsulation systems, automated packaging lines, and a dedicated quality lab, the site will focus on high-growth categories such as beverages and confectionery. Once operational in Q4 2027, it is expected to generate over 200 jobs.

Maurizio Clementi, Executive Vice President of Taste at dsm-firmenich, described the dual projects as a strategic investment in India’s long-term growth: “We’re not just adding capacity; we’re expanding capabilities to anticipate evolving consumer needs and support our customers with tailored, differentiated solutions.”

Rahul Jalan, President of India at dsm-firmenich, emphasized that India’s culinary diversity, proximity to customers, and skilled talent make it a critical hub for the company’s global operations. “Our manufacturing investments will strengthen local supply chains, bring world-class technology closer to customers, and advance sustainable growth,” he said.

Both sites reflect dsm-firmenich’s sustainability ethos.

The Thuravoor facility is powered entirely by renewable electricity, employs advanced water-conservation systems, and helps reduce customers’ Scope 3 emissions by localizing production.

Similar sustainability measures will be integrated into the Vadodara plant, supporting the company’s broader carbon-reduction goals.

The Kerala inauguration was attended by senior company leaders and Juan Pedro Schmid, Counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland in India and Bhutan. The Vadodara ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled later this month.
