Minerva Foods joins COBEA, advances animal welfare initiatives

BRAZIL – Minerva Foods has announced its membership in the Brazilian Animal Welfare Collaboration (COBEA), a new coalition consisting of seven key players in the animal protein industry.

This partnership aims to enhance animal welfare practices and promote sustainable progress within the sector.

By collaborating, the coalition seeks to share experiences, identify common challenges, and explore joint solutions for a more responsible future.

In recent months, Minerva Foods has intensified its focus on animal welfare, emphasizing ethical practices throughout its operations.

The company recently conducted two specialized training sessions on Animal Welfare (BEA) in Mirassol d’Oeste and Paranatinga, both located in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

These sessions, which took place in June and August, involved a total of 162 participants, including 50 employees and 112 outsourced drivers and cattle handlers.

Additionally, Minerva Foods has expanded its welfare initiatives to cover nine partner farms.

The company is working to enhance the welfare standards among the cowboys and property managers on these farms, aiming to improve practices across its supply chain.

This announcement coincides with a significant development regarding asset acquisitions.

Minerva Foods and Marfrig Global Foods recently received regulatory approval for a transaction worth 7.5 billion reais (around US$1.3 billion).

Initially revealed nearly a year ago, this agreement involves Minerva acquiring various facilities from Marfrig throughout South America.

While the deal originally included 11 plants and a distribution center in Brazil, as well as additional locations in Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile, it has been scaled back following regulatory assessments.

Founded in 1924 in Barretos, São Paulo, Minerva Foods has established itself as a prominent Brazilian food company, specializing in fresh beef trade, leather, by-products, live cattle exports, and meat processing
